Cookie Policy
Date: November 2020
On our website we use cookies and similar technologies, such as clear GIFs/pixel tags, JavaScript, local storage, log files and other mechanisms to automatically collect and record information about your browsing activities and use of the services. We may combine this ‘activity information’ with other personal data we collect about you. Generally, we use this activity information to understand how our services are used, track bugs and errors, improve our services, verify account credentials, allow logins, track sessions, prevent fraud, and protect our services, as well as for targeted marketing and advertising, to personalize content and for analytics purposes. This helps us to provide you a good experience when you browse our website and also allows us to improve our site.
This cookie policy provides you with clear and thorough information about the cookies we use and the purposes for using them.
1- WHAT IS A COOKIE?
A cookie is a small file of letters and numbers that we store on your browser or the hard drive of your computer. You can adjust your browser setting so that it will refuse cookies.
2- WHAT COOKIES DO WE USE AND WHY?
The cookies used on our site are categorised as follows:
- Functional cookies
- First and third-party cookies
- Affiliate cookies
- Social Media Plugins
- Website statistics
- Other cookies
Functional cookies
We use functional cookies to make the website work properly. These cookies contain a different, temporary number each time you visit the website. The functional cookies are temporary and are deleted as soon as you close your browser.
We use the following functional cookies:
- JavaScript: We use functional cookies to check whether your device, such as your computer, laptop or smartphone, supports JavaScript. JavaScript ensures that you see drop down menus on the website. If your device does not support JavaScript, the website will not display properly.
- Forms: The functional cookies are also used for the proper functioning of our online forms, such as the contact form.
Session storage is a form of temporary storage of data, just like functional cookies are. We use session storage only to store information about the structure of the website in your browser. Session storage makes it easy for you to click or swipe through the list of topics on the website. No personal data will be processed from you.
First and third-party cookies
Whether a cookie is 'first' or 'third' party refers to the domain which places the cookie. ‘First-party cookies’ are those set by a website that is being visited by the user at the time. ‘Third-party cookies’ are cookies that are set by a domain other than that of the website being visited by the user. If a user visits a website and another entity sets a cookie through that website, this would be a third-party cookie.
Third parties may not place cookies on our website to build up a profile of you based on your surfing behaviour on our site unless, based on your consent, we have given them explicit permission for this. The information about your surfing behaviour our website can in that case be combined by this third party with information from previous visits to websites and apps other than ours.
For more information about the cookies that third parties can place and the data they collect, we refer to the privacy and cookie policies that these parties provide on their own websites.
Affiliate cookies
Affiliate cookies are used for 'affiliate marketing'. These cookies provide information about the effectiveness of a displayed advertisement; the cookie keeps track of whether a purchase has been made in response to an advertisement displayed. Based on this information, the advertiser of the relevant advertisement can be rewarded.
Given the small impact on the privacy of users, no permission is required for the use of these cookies.
Social Media plugins
Given that our website might also include social media plugins such as Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and Pinterest, said plugins may also contain cookies that may be placed on your computer either when you are browsing our website or clicking upon one of the social media buttons.
Our privacy policy and cookie policy apply to our website and our services contained therein/available through it only. Despite the integration of social media plugins (for example, Facebook “Like”-Button, Instagram “Follow”-Button and Twitter “Follow”-Button), our privacy policy does not apply to your interactions with said other websites and services, even if you find such links on our website or if we send you such links through our website or any other communication channel. These other sites maintain their own policies regarding cookies and the collection and use of personal data. It is up to you to review those policies yourself.
If you wish to prevent this, please log out of your social media accounts before visiting our website. However, without cookies, you do not have access to certain features on our sites.
Website statistics
To determine which parts of the website are most interesting for our visitors, we try to measure continuously, among other things using the software of a third party, how many visitors come to our website and what is viewed the most. We use cookies for this.
Statistics are generated from the information that we collect. These statistics give us insight into how often (a certain part of) the website is visited, where exactly visitors spend the most time, and so on. This enables us to make structure, navigation and content of the website as user-friendly as possible for you. We use a statistics program to analyse which pages are visited the most and how many visitors have come to our website. To this end, we collect IP addresses from our visitors, just like most websites. These are stored in so-called log files. The log files are kept on the web servers for 18 months for security reasons, error tracking and are only viewed for that purpose.
We collect the following data with the log files:
- Requested web pages and downloads;
- IP addresses;
- User agents (browsers, operating system);
- User devices (type, brand);
- Location (based on anonymized IP addresses);
- Used links to get our website (referrers).
Moreover, we use Google Analytics to measure our site. On behalf of us, Google will use this information to analyse your usage of our website, to compile reports about website activities and further to provide web related services, in this context, to us. All data shared with Google Analytics are limited with regard to the traceability of visitors to our website as much as possible, for example the last digit groups of each IP address are anonymized.
For more information about Google Analytics cookies, please see Google’s Help pages and Privacy Policy.
Google has developed the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on for the Google Analytics JavaScript (ga.js, analytics.js, dc.js). If you wish to opt out of Google Analytics, you can download and install the add-on for your web browser here: https://tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout.
Other / unforeseen cookies
Because of the way in which the internet, websites and apps work, it may be that we do not always have insight into the cookies that are placed by third parties via our website. This is especially the case if our websites and apps contain so-called embedded elements; these are texts, documents, pictures or films that are stored at another party, but which are shown on, in or via our website. Should you encounter cookies on this website that fall into this category and that we have not mentioned above, please let us know. Or contact the third party directly and ask which cookies they have placed, what the reason is, what the lifetime of the cookie is and how your privacy is guaranteed.
3- HOW TO DELETE AND BLOCK OUR COOKIES
You can block cookies by activating the setting on your browser that allows you to refuse the setting of all or some cookies. However, if you use your browser settings to block all cookies (including essential cookies), you may not be able to access all or parts of our site. Unless you have adjusted your browser setting so that it will refuse cookies, our system will issue cookies as soon as you visit our site.
4- CHANGING YOUR COOKIE SETTINGS
Please note that internet browsers allow you to change your cookie settings. These settings are usually found in the 'options' or 'preferences' menu of your internet browser. In order to understand these settings, you should use the 'Help' option in your internet browser for more details.
5- CAN I WITHDRAW MY CONSENT?
If you wish to withdraw your consent at any time, you will need to delete your cookies using your internet browser settings. For further information about deleting or blocking cookies, please visit: http://www.aboutcookies.org/Default.aspx?page=2/.
